Former Australian Rules footballer James Madden has joined the Dublin Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) squad for the 2025 campaign. Dublin manager Dessie Farrell revealed Madden, along with 15 other new faces, will be part of the team. Farrell also confirmed the return of Davy Byrne after a year away. Madden, 25, previously played for the Brisbane Lions for six seasons.

He has moved back home. Dublin are set to face Mayo at Croke Park on Saturday night in their Division 1 opener with the new rules in play.
“That kicks off of course on Saturday and I think in a couple of weeks time we will have a much better handle on what’s involved and what to expect but so far, so good from our experience.”
