As a 'significant' new update emerges in the search for Jay Slater, the Mirror takes a look at everything we know about the missing teen's stay at the Airbnb rental.
The disappearance of Jay Slater remains a mystery after the 19-year-old vanished without a trace on the morning of Monday, June 17. The teen had woken up in an unfamiliar Airbnb in Tenerife, far from his mates with whom he had travelled for what should have been a fun first holiday abroad without his family.
This comes as ex-serviceman Christopher Pennington, who's been aiding the volunteer search teams, stumbled upon a new 'clue' - a pair of sunglasses with one lens gone, strikingly similar to ones Jay owned. The 31-year-old was jailed in 2015 as the ringleader of a London-based gang which dealt heroin and crack cocaine in Cardiff. Rhoda Singh, 59, appeared alongside Ayub on drug charges nine years ago, and says she's been 'shocked' to learn the 'gentle fella' is a key witness in the mystery case.
Remote location After exiting the nightclub after-party, Jay and two older men made their way to Casa Abuela Tina, a secluded Airbnb in the mountainous village of Masca. As detailed by Manchester Evening News' James Holt, who visited the Airbnb, the property is situated halfway up a mountain and is challenging to access even by car.
He continued to explain that once they were at the Airbnb, his unnamed friend opened the door, and went to the left and went straight to sleep. He said Jay was given a blanket and phone charger before he later left to get a bus that 'comes every 10 minutes'. After informing him there was no bus coming, and advising him knock if he changed his mind, Qassim then allegedly went back to sleep. At 8.15 am, Jay rang his friend Lucy, telling her he was in the 'the middle of nowhere' and dehydrated, with just one per cent phone battery left.
