Caulfield's mother Nora passed away on Wednesday and was laid to rest on Friday morning.

Just hours after his mother's funeral, John Caulfield joined Ollie Horgan in the dugout for the second half of Galway United's win over St Pat's.

Horgan was tasked with taking charge of the game, but Caulfield ended up making a surprise appearance during the second half at Eamon Deacy Park to see Galway beat St Pat's 2-1."I'd say John's mother was looking down there tonight," Horgan told Virgin Media. "We'd like to pay our condolences to the Caulfields and the O'Keefe families. It was probably a fitting end to the week.

St. Pat's were much fancied about winning this one, but Galway upset the odds with a 2-1 victory thanks to a Patrick Hickey double.
