Speaking on National Slow Down Day, Justice Minister Helen McEntee confirmed that increased funding will be allocated to increase the number of GoSafe speed cameras operating
The number of speed cameras operating on Irish roads will increase by 20 per cent, Justice Minister Helen McEntee has confirmed.
READ MORE: Garda warning to anyone driving today as officers will be checking speeds in these exact locations The funding will increase monitoring hours by the GoSafe cameras by 20 per cent, or an extra 1,500 hours per month until the end of this year.Minister McEntee said that the number of incidents have been "devastating and worrying".
"We all have a role to play in reducing road deaths. Drivers must understand that every time they take to the road, they have a responsibility to themselves, their passengers and other road users, to drive safely." Minister McEntee and Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers will meet on Tuesday to discuss road safety.
Minister McEntee said that she would be "supportive of any change that would change people’s behaviour".
