Virgin Media star Katja Mia has shared her struggles with health issues, attributing her past body image problems to years of fad dieting. Last year, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and endometriosis, conditions that have made maintaining a healthy weight even more challenging. Mia candidly discussed her journey in the RTE Guide, revealing her past struggles with disordered eating and the societal pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards.

'We grew up on diet culture and it messes you up so much,' she confessed. 'I did all the fad diets there was; I definitely had disorderly eating as a teenager and it really messes up your perception of what healthy eating and a healthy body is.' She admitted to fluctuating weight throughout her life and rejecting her natural curves in her younger years, driven by the desire to be a 'size zero' as society glorified at the time. However, Mia has now embraced a more holistic approach to health and well-being. She has partnered with a trainer, researched anti-inflammatory diets, and is prioritizing stress reduction. 'With each day, I'm trying to care about it less,' she explained. 'The majority of women go through this, so it's important to talk about it.' Mia wants to prioritize feeling good and enjoying her body and life, moving away from the constant pressure of yo-yo dieting. She also discussed her upcoming wedding to fiancée Daragh Curran, scheduled for 2026. While they are still in the early stages of planning, Mia shared that they are excited about the process and eager to celebrate their love. The couple will also be hosting a grand engagement party this summer in Burundi, Mia's parents' home country, where the engagement celebration is considered even more significant than the wedding itself. Mia expressed her eagerness to immerse herself in her culture and share it with her fiancée
