Dancing With The Stars is heating up with a country music week and a team dance format shake-up. Kayleigh Trappe defends Kevin Dundon against online critics, calling him a 'dad' figure.
Dancing With The Stars has reached its quarter finals, and the show is spicing things up this week with a country music themed week, as well as shaking up the format with a team dance . The six remaining contestants will be split into two teams of three and will work together to create a show-stopping performance.
TV chef Kevin Dundon, paired with pro dancer Rebecca Scott, will be dancing to Kenny Loggins’ 80’s country rock classic Footloose with Taekwondo athlete Jack Woolley and his partner Alex Vladimirov, and lip-syncing sensation Kayleigh Trappe and her partner Ervinas Merfeldas. Kayleigh and Ervinas will also be tackling a Dolly Parton song for their stand-alone performance. Kevin has vowed to give the contest his all, despite some naysayers who have criticised his performances. Kayleigh added that the backlash he is receiving is 'a shame' and she has been delighted to see him succeed each week. 'Kevin to me is like my dad and nobody wants to see their dad getting any negativity at all. And in fairness to him, the chats we've had, like he's very uplifting. It's a shame because Kevin comes in and puts a smile on my face and gives me a hug and he's doing an amazing job in every way,' she said. 'So it's a shame that the backlash is getting, but at the end of the day, it goes to show that the love I have for Kevin, the public also have for Kevin because they're voting him in, they're keeping him in every week. He puts a smile on my face every Monday. He's such a positive man and he deserves to be in the show all the way to the bitter end. The public are keeping him in and that's the most important part.' The social media star is looking forward to dancing with her honorary DWTS dad and brother Kevin and Jack for the group dance. 'When I was told I was going to dance with Jack and Kevin, I just knew it was going to be so much craic. Kevin's like my dad and Jack's like my little brother. So it's like a little happy family going out together. We've got each other's backs,' she told RSVP Live. 'And Jack, well warned, if I mess up, I just told him, go do the splits across and distract. So he would do that for me,' she joked. 'And Kevin, I said, Kevin, if we mess up our footwork, we'll give a few winks and distract. So it's just been so much fun. It's actually been a really uplifting. So I'm really looking forward to doing the two dances, especially because mine are both so different.' Kayleigh shared that she and Kevin were already thinking about the craic they would have together if they were placed on the same team before the teams were announced. 'He is so funny. I think for the nature of the week that's in it, the country week, I keep calling him the top cowboy. It's been so lovely to be able to dance with him because I support him so, so much. Like I said earlier, he's like my dad in this.' 'So it's fantastic. And I know that he's, he, myself and Jack are not going to put a foot loose for this one,' she added
