Harrington gets her Olympic gold medal defence underway this afternoon
The Tokyo 2020 60kg champion will fight Italy's Alessia Mesiano for a spot in Wednesday's quarter-finals. The 32-year-old Italian overcame the challenge of Turkey’s Gizem Ozer in the preliminary round of the division securing a decisive 4-1 win to earn a spot In today's round of 16 clash.
The two have met previously at the international level at a contest hosted at the University of Jordanstown in Belfast before the Tokyo Olympics in April 2021 where Harrington took the result on the day. She holds a record of 103 wins, 38 losses, and four draws, knocking her opponent out on two occasions.
