A former Garda Assistant Commissioner has said that while the Kinahan cartel's influence has significantly waned, they are not finished and remain a threat. Pat Leahy told the Irish Mirror that another gang may have filled the vacuum left by weakened Kinahans but stressed that the mob hasn't completely gone away.

"So it will slow down things somewhat but it’s not going to end it because there’s plenty of suppliers out there willing to step into this space. Somebody will step into it but it's really good for the police to be really deeply involved in this and so effective.”
