Labour win in landslide victory as the Conservatives come second in the Blackpool South by-election
The new MP for the constituency won the seat with 10,825 votes a turn out of 32.54% or 18,448 votes. This is a drastic comparison to the turnout of the 2019 General Election, which saw 56.8% of the electorate heading to their local polling booths.
The former MP lost the Conservative whip after a lobbying scandal was brought to light and the politician was suspended from the House of Commons. A recall petition was instigated and Mr Benton later resigned, triggering the May 2 by-election. "They've had enough of 14 years the Conservatives have been in power. They have lost trust in the British people and Blackpool have had enough of this failed government - they've crashed the economy, destroyed our public services and put up taxes.
