Declan Latta was found guilty following a trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court of sexual assault with intent to rape the woman who allowed him to come to her house after he said he'd fallen out with his girlfriend.
Declan Latta, 25, pounced on the 43-year-old in her home in Motherwell. He had been kicked out of a pub but allowed to go back to her house after saying he had fallen out with his girlfriend.
She locked herself in a bathroom and messaged her son while Latta repeatedly tried to open the locked door. They ended up in a bedroom where he suggested they have sex despite her telling him repeatedly she was old enough to be his mother. Latta's victim told depute fiscal Rebecca Clark: "I told him that it wasn't going to happen, that I was old enough to be his mum."He said to me 'let's f**k' and I was like no this isn't happening and he asked if I was scared of getting pregnant.
Latta denied the allegations and told the court the woman was a liar. He added: "I wanted to join the police force or the fire brigade to help the community and because of this I feel like I've not been able to achieve in my life what I wanted to achieve."
