A game of two wind-aided halves, plenty of late drama, and in the end a fairly stunning and deserving victory for Wicklow. Despite hitting the last five points of the game, the opposing team fell just short. Wicklow had a strong wind advantage in the first half, going seven points up at the break. The question of whether that would be enough was not answered until the last few seconds.
A game of two wind-aided halves, plenty of late drama , and in the end a fairly stunning and deserving victory forThat it finished in a one-point win was reflective of the effort of both teams, Wicklow just doing enough to hold on,falling just short despite hitting the last five points of the game. In the five minutes of added time tension filled the air.
Crucially perhaps, the wind started to ease, giving Wicklow further confidence, and on 52 minutes they had their second goal. Dean Healy shot from distance, which bounced into the Westmeath box, somehow eluding Shane Doyle in goal, and John Paul Nolan fisted home from close range. Wicklow ended up back in Division Four, after last season’s promotion, and down a few first-choice players, have been struggling to find consistency. For Wicklow manager, Oisín McConville this ranks as his finest win since taking charge.

Before the break O’Brien added his second for Wicklow, and they went in 1-5 to 0-1 in front.
