Kane County sold $27.8 million in bonds to pay for the bridge, money that will be repaid with funds generated from tolls.
Money must be found by Friday, the final day before the state’s spending plan is to be voted on by the General Assembly and sent to Gov. J.B. Pritzker for approval.
State Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, said she and other legislators met with Kane County Board Chairwoman Corinne Pierog, D-Batavia, about the issue last week.“She provided a very comprehensive package of information,” Ness said. “It comes down to, why should we have the only toll bridge in Illinois?”
Aside from the bridge, the rest of Longmeadow Parkway — three-fourths of which is now open — is free to use. Longmeadow starts at Huntley Road in Dundee Township, west of Randall Road, crosses through Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills and ends at Route 62.
