Asked by the Irish Mirror in Brussels how his family and partner Matt Barrett reacted to his announcement, the Taoiseach admitted he had not spoken to many of his relatives since the news broke
Leo Varadkar has said that his long-term partner Matt Barrett is “delighted” by his decision to step down as Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader.

The Taoiseach also refused to be dragged into the debate on a new Fine Gael leader, as Simon Harris emerges as the clear favourite among Fine Gael TDs, Senators and MEPs.
