The national forecaster has been keeping people updated with the latest weather news, as Storm Bert is expected to make landfall at around midnight - bringing damaging winds and high levels of rain
Met Eireann has issued a Status Red alert for two counties as they expect severe flooding and damage to homes.
There are two Status Red alerts, with one Status Orange and two Status Yellow - with two more Yellow warnings from the UK Met Office.A Status Yellow wind and rain warning for Leinster, Munster, Connacht, Cavan and Monaghan was also put in place by Met Eireann. It comes into effect from 10PM on Friday, 22 November and ends at 12PM on Saturdya, 23 November.
The national forecaster said: “Snow transitioning to rain, coupled with strong southeast to south winds. Impacts: Difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, fallen trees and localised flooding.” The same counties also have a Status Yellow wind warning. It is valid from 5AM on Saturday, 23 November until 7PM on the same day.
It says: “Highest accumulations are expected in west Galway. Impacts: Severe flooding, damage to homes & businesses and dangerous/treacherous travelling conditions”.
