59 candidates competing for 28 seats

Fifty-nine candidates are in the running for 28 seats on Clare County Council with a series of high-profile retirements set to lead to an infusion of new blood on the local authority.

Sinn Féin will be hoping to capitalise on the 15 per cent first preference vote its since departed candidate, Violet Anne Wynne, secured in the 2020 general election. Wynne is now an Independent TD. The party has only one incumbent on the council, Cllr Donna McGettigan, but it is running a candidate in each of the five electoral areas.
