Several National Lottery winners, including a Kildare man who won €100,000 on Christmas Eve, visited lottery headquarters to claim their prizes in January. Other winners include a Dublin man who won €200,000, a Mayo family syndicate who won €100,000, and a Donegal man who won €50,000.

It's been a busy start to the new year at National Lottery HQ as several big scratchcard winners travelled to collect their prizes.

He explained: "It was exactly 4.30pm on Christmas Eve, and I had just got home from the shops, getting ready to go socialise with my friends. I carefully scratched the card and saw the €100,000 win - I fell to the floor crying. I just couldn’t believe it. I was home alone at the time, so I picked up the phone to share the news, and no one would believe me!"

Home alone and in disbelief, the winner found himself questioning whether his eyes were playing tricks on him. Fearing that his excitement was clouding his judgment, he decided to take drastic action to ensure the card’s safety He recalled: "I rang Martin, with the card in my hand, calling out the validation code. He left it too long for my liking to confirm the win, because the couple of seconds of silence felt like half an hour. I started to doubt the win, I was starting to break a sweat, until he congratulated me, and the celebrations kicked off again!"

The winning scratchcard was sold in Spar on 199 Decies Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10. Shop owner James Kennedy was delighted to hear the news about one of his customers. The winning ticket was purchased at Kavanagh’s SuperValu in Castlebar. While they have no immediate plans for their windfall, the family dreams of planning an unforgettable holiday together in the near future.
