Ireland’s Shane Lowry was playing on the more difficult South Course. "Felt like I was driving the ball really well," Aberg said after his lowest-scoring opening round as a member of the PGA Tour."Golf becomes a lot easier when you can do that. Even though North is a little bit easier than South, it still presents its challenges and you've still got to hit the shots. Super happy with the way we kind of came out of the gates today and played some good golf.

Springer used his own fast start to wind up 7 under par. He was 3 under through two holes after an eagle 3 at No. 10 of the North Course, which was his first hole of the day. Defending champion Matthieu Pavon of France struggled to a 1-over 73 on the South Course and is tied for 100th place.
