'Cool Hand' Luke was uncharacteristically animated during his victory over Dimitri van den Bergh at their recent World Matchplay battle - mocking the Belgian who celebrated back-to-back 180s
Luke Humphries showed his true colours by celebrating against Dimitri Van den Bergh during their recent World Matchplay victory.
The match was 11-10 in Luke's favour when Van den Bergh popped his shoulders up and down in celebration after hitting home consecutive 180s, but Humphries responded with a 106 checkout while mimicking the movement from his opponent, stone-faced. Speaking on the incident after the victory, Humphries said: "When Dimitri hit the second 180, he did the shoulder roll and I thought that's such an unnatural reaction.
"I was pretty revved up after that. Maybe that could've been the mistake he made. When people do things like that, it revs me up." The celebration caught commentators by surprise, who elatedly said: "Look at this! He's giving it the full Dmitri chicken," before Humphries walked to his opponent with a smirk, before embracing in respect.
A third went on: "Love it," while a fourth added: "Great s***housery." The victory over Van den Bergh comes as Humphries' third win of the 2024 World Matchplay event, beating Ricardo Pietreczko in his opener 10-4 before crushing Stephen Bunting 11-7.
