Penwortham, Fulwood, Grimsargh, Ribbleton and the Docks were all seeing journeys taking two-hours against normal travel times with some motorists saying they experienced delays of more than four hours. Lancashire Police began to open lanes of the motorway around 5pm after approaching 10-hours of clean-up operations.
Support on the clean-up also came from the Environment Agency who used equipment to collect the milk.
