Christian Brueckner, a convicted paedophile, is suspected of snatching and killing the three-year-old British youngster in Praia da Luz in May 2007.

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner confessed to snatching a girl from her Algarve holiday apartment, a court sensationally heard today. The paedophile is suspected of abducting and killing three-year-old Madeleine in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz.

Romanian Laurentiu Codin told Braunschweig regional court: “He told me that in Portugal, he had stolen there. He was in a region where there are hotels and rich people live. He said there was somewhere with an open window. He was looking for money. “He said he didn’t find any money but found a kid and took the child. He said that two hours later, there were police and dogs all over the place, so he then went away, out of the area. I am just saying what he told me. He told me that a person was with him, who he had had an argument with, allegedly it was his woman.

Codin, a locksmith, said Brueckner spilled the beans during regular visits to his cell in Braunschweig prison. He claimed the paedophile also confessed to abducting and raping young girls in the city of Hannover.“He said that he had a bus and that he had taken her with it. He said he kept some of them, but not others, but he never said that he had killed them. We’re talking about girls, not boys. Not all at once, always one at a time. He told me about two.

He said whether children or women, it is the same. And he said he had done that in Portugal,” he added. “All what I said is true, but I can’t judge if what he said to me was true or not.” Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year prison term for raping an American pensioner in the Portuguese resort. Madeleine had previously only been briefly mentioned in the trial, which has been taking place since February. But today images and photos of the tragic tot were dramatically screened in Braunschweig court.
