The new system will require a driver to supply their driver number and those of any other named drivers on their insurance before they can secure a policy from the end of the month
Motorists across the country are being warned of a major change in car insurance procedures coming into effect next month, affecting all policies. From March 31, all drivers and any additional named drivers on their insurance will need to provide their driver number before they can secure a policy.

Your driver number can be found on your licence or learner's permit under section 4d. Uninsured drivers on Irish roads lead to the rest of us coughing up more cash through our insurance policies, as the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland has to step in to compensate victims. This non-profit organisation levies charges to insurers for these payouts, which inevitably ends up inflating our premiums.
