Concerns are growing that the 'Beast from the East' cold snap could return to Ireland in March, bringing below-average temperatures and potential snowfall. While forecasts remain uncertain, weather experts warn of a risk of cold conditions around March 18th. Meanwhile, Met Eireann predicts stormy conditions, including strong winds, between now and early March.

Fears that a so-called 'Beast from the East' could make a shock return to Ireland in March have started to grow after weather experts published a new set of weather maps on Saturday.

Irish weather expert, Alan O'Reilly, of Carlow Weather on X, warned his followers of the possible cold snap in March but also urged caution as it is notoriously difficult to accurately predict such future weather conditions. Weather charts published by WXCharts.com on Saturday show cold temperatures for most of the country around the middle of March but subzero temperatures look like they will be most common in the North West of the country with even the possibility of snowfall.

Met Eireann National Outlook: Overview: Cold with below average temperatures for the time of year, becoming cloudier with some rain at times. Monday night: Mainly cloudy and dry but some further outbreaks of rain are possible, turning more persistent in the southwest through the night. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees in light to moderate east to southeast winds.
