A weather expert has offered reassurance that Ireland will likely avoid the 'Beast from the East' storm, but warned of a potential 'Pest from the West' arriving next week.

A weather expert has issued an update amid concerns that an Arctic storm, dubbed the 'Beast from the East', is set to hit Ireland later this month. Following a dramatic swing in temperatures this week, which saw the country enjoy unseasonably warm conditions, weather experts had hinted at a possible return of snow and sub-zero temperatures towards the end of next week.

Weather maps published by Ventusky this week showed an Arctic storm tracking towards Ireland, potentially making landfall in the coming days. Early projection models predicted the weather event would sweep into southern England before arriving in Ireland, with temperatures plummeting by the end of the month. These initial forecasts indicated snow falling across a stretch of the UK from central Scotland down to the southeast English coast at midnight on Friday, January 24, as the storm moved across the North Sea before reaching Ireland. On Tuesday, Alan O'Reilly, the hobbyist meteorologist behind the popular Carlow Weather social media pages, stated that projection models suggested a 'chance' that the Beast from the East-like storm could arrive in Ireland around January 25. However, in his latest forecast, O'Reilly offered a positive update on whether Ireland would be hit by an Arctic storm next week. The weather expert said that current weather models showed 'no sign of a Beast from the East'. Taking to Twitter / X on Thursday, O'Reilly wrote: 'No sign of a beast for now and some sunny spells ahead today Thursday but more cloud for many. 'Friday will be a mix of cloud and bright spells but some patchy drizzle. Saturday looks to hold mainly dry now but some cloud and mist possible and a risk of light rain Sunday. 'As this latest forecast of upper air temperatures shows, at present there is no sign of a Beast from the East hitting Ireland over 10 days.' While Ireland appears to be avoiding the arrival of a Beast from the East, one weather expert has warned of a 'pest from the west' heading our way next week. According to Ireland weather expert Wolfe Eire, there is 'little support' for a beast from the East but rather another threat from the Atlantic. In an update shared on Wednesday, Wolfe Eire stated: 'There is a lot of talk about the 'Beast from the East' impacting Ireland and Britain later this month. There remains little background support for such an outcome at present with the 'Pest from the West' favoured to influence our weather from next week. 'Online chatter about a BFTE event has reduced significantly today. There is minimal support for such an outcome. A greater Atlantic influence on our weather will become established later on Saturday.'
