A man has been arrested in connection with a crash involving two trucks in Co Cork earlier today in which a man was seriously injured
A man in his mid-20s has been arrested in connection with a road crash earlier today between two articulated lorries on the N72 road between Mallow in Co Cork and Killarney in Co Kerry. The man who was arrested is being detained at Mallow Garda Station.
The road at Ballymaquirke Cross near Kanturk, where the crash occurred, was closed for several hours to facilitate an examination by a garda forensic road crash investigator. One of the trucks involved in the crash was an articulated vehicle drawing a tanker which contained 27,000 litres of milk. The tanker overturned and some milk spilled into the River Blackwater, which runs within 60m of the junction where the crash occurred, and into adjoining streams. Most of the milk was contained within the crashed tanker and was safely removed later.A council spokeswoman told RTÉ News there was no evidence of a downstream fish kill and there did not appear to have been any significant impact on the river, due to high water levels at the time and due to the gradual discharge of milk.
