Farhats Bathijevs, 55, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court on Thursday facing further charges of money laundering and Section 15A drugs offences in addition to the previous charge relating to the discovery of €1.4 million worth of gold bullion.
A man charged in connection with the discovery of €1.4 million worth of gold bullion is to face trial by judge and jury after he was further charged with drugs and money laundering offences.
Garda Sean McElroy of Dublin Crime Response Team said the accused, of Earlsfort Court in Lucan, Co Dublin made "no reply" when he was charged with the additional offences. Gda McElroy agreed with the defence barrister that the accused has been abiding by his bail conditions when the barrister told the court "it was described by gardai as the largest gold seizure in the State."He said the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment on all charges.
The barrister told Judge David McHugh the accused is "originally from outside the jurisdiction but has been living here 15 years.Judge McHugh said he is satisfied the accused "is a flight risk" and that he is satisfied he is charged with very serious offences.
