A man in his 20s has appeared in court charged with the rape and false imprisonment of a 17-year-old girl in west Cork , Ireland . The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought before Judge Treasa Kelly at Macroom District Court on Wednesday. Detective Garda Lisa O’Sullivan from the Protective Services Unit in Dunmanway detailed the arrest, charge, and cautioning of the suspect.
She stated that the accused made no reply when presented with the four charges against him at 5:10 pm on Tuesday. The charges include one count of rape, one count of sexual assault, one count of assault causing harm, and one count of false imprisonment. All charges relate to the same incident, which is alleged to have occurred at a location in west Cork on Sunday, February 16th. Defense solicitor Éamonn Fleming informed the court that he would not be applying for bail on behalf of his client at this time. He declined to question the arresting gardaí and reserved his position regarding bail, stating he would provide the State with 48 hours' notice if he intended to make an application. Judge Kelly remanded the accused in custody to appear before Bandon District Court next Monday. Legal aid was granted by the judge
