Police say they believe the man suffered a 'medical episode' at the wheel
A man has died after a car crash which shut a busy city roundabout. Crown Island, at the junction of Wollaton Road, Western Boulevard and Middleton Boulevard, on the outskirts of the city, was closed off by police after a car mounted the pavement and collided with parked vehicles at a motor dealership at about 4.30pm Saturday, October 14.
Police say the driver of the car, a man in his 50s, had suffered a "medical episode" at the wheel. Officers said that, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man died a short time later. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. A cordon was in place at the scene from Saturday evening and throughout Sunday, with cars being diverted away from the roundabout with the roads, including Western and Middleton Boulevards, inaccessible to motorists. The car which left the road was thought to be a burgundy Nissan. It collided with a black Skoda Octavia on the forecourt of local business AT Cars, a used car dealership.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to a car dealership in Wollaton Road, near to Nottingham’s Crown Island, following a road traffic collision at around 4.30pm on Saturday . A car left the road before hitting several parked vehicles at the dealership. "It is believed the driver, a man in his 50s, had suffered a medical episode at the wheel. Paramedics attended but sadly the man died a short time later. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers."
