The single-vehicle crash happened on the N63 in the townland of Creeveroe, Newbridge, Ballinasloe at around 12.45pm.
The man, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Portiuncula University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.The road remains closed and local diversions are in place.Anyone travelling on the main road between Roscommon and Galway between 12.20pm and 1.
