A tragic single-vehicle collision in Clonakilty, Co Cork, resulted in the death of a man in his 50s early Tuesday morning. Gardai are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses.

A man in his 50s tragically lost his life following a single-vehicle collision in Co Cork early Tuesday morning. The fatal crash occurred on the N71 in Clonakilty town at approximately 12:15 am. Emergency services and Gardai immediately responded to the scene. Sadly, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently removed to Cork University Hospital.

The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements are underway for a post-mortem examination. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported in the incident. Gardai closed the road to allow their Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct a thorough technical examination of the crash site. Local diversions have been put in place to manage traffic flow during this time. An Garda Siochana has confirmed that they are actively investigating the fatal collision. A garda spokesperson issued a statement urging anyone with information to come forward. Specifically, they are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the collision or any vehicles traveling in the area between 12:00 am (midnight) and 12:30 am to contact them. They are also requesting that any road users with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from that time period, make it available to the Gardai. Anyone with information is asked to contact Clonakilty Garda Station on 023 882 1570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station
