Cops on patrol observed a white Audi Q2 on the M8, near the Glasgow Fort.
Officers stopped the vehicle and asked the driver, George Wright, to provide a sample of saliva for a roadside drug test. This tested positive for cannabis.Wright, of Springboig, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week for sentencing.Wright’s lawyer said: “He fully accepts the situation he’s in. He has a bad record for driving and he acknowledges that. He has been a heavy cannabis user.
"His licence is more important to him than cannabis because of his commitments and he’s had to review his cannabis use.” Sheriff McGuire replied: “He’s been perfectly candid with the social worker. There is no minimisation. He understands exactly what he’s done and the consequences."I'm minded to impose unpaid work and a period of disqualification.”
The sheriff told Wright: “You do have a poor record but what is of particular importance is you only have offences for lack of insurance and MOT, and you currently have a clean licence. “The scene of this incident, the M8 motorway, concerns me, as does the high-level reading, and you were on bail at the time. I'm satisfied I can deal with this matter by period of unpaid work.”
