Old Trafford has seen a revival in being a 'scary' ground, says Christian Eriksen MUFC
Manchester United’s Old Trafford gradually lost its reputation as a difficult place to go for away sides in recent years.ace Christian Eriksen, this season ‘The Theatre of Dreams’ has seen a revival in being a ‘scary’ ground to go to for their opponents.Since signing for Man United on a free transfer as part of Erik ten Hag’s rebuild of the Red Devils squad, Eriksen has played 32 games this season, allowing him to get a real understanding of what it’s like to play at Old Trafford.
The club went six years without a trophy between 2017 and this year’s Carabao Cup final win, and as the titles disappeared from 2013 onwards, so did Old Trafford’s reputation for being a tough place to go.But aside from the criticism of it becoming an ageing stadium, Eriksen says that the iconic Old Trafford atmosphere has returned since the start of the season and he’s credited the fans for getting it back to its old standard.
“And then coming here and playing, I do get why some people – especially now and how it’s going – are scared to play because of the crowd.
