BREAKING: Manchester Airport closed due to snow amid Met Office weather warning for region - latest updates
has closed both its runways following 'heavy snow fall'. It comes as the Met Office is warning of snow and ice across much of the country this morning , including Greater Manchester.
The weather warning affecting the region is in force until midday. Manchester Airport says it will reopen its runways as soon as possible. A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: "Following a period of heavy snow fall, we have temporarily closed both runways. Health and safety will always be our top priority and operations will resume at the earliest opportunity."Passengers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information." The Met Office warns of treacherous conditions this morning on roads and surfaces.
It says travel disruption is also to be expected. Manchester is waking up to freezing temperatures this morning, which are expected to climb to 4C later today.
