Former jockey and Dancing with the Stars winner Nina Carberry and former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh will contest the European elections for Fine Gael in the Midlands North-West constituency.
This cleared the way for Ms Walsh and Ms Carberry to be added to the two-person Fine Gael ticket for the European elections on June 7.Ms Walsh is seeking her second term as an MEP following the shock election of the former Rose of Tralee winner in 2019. She said: “The ups and downs of politics don’t faze me. I stepped into the unknown in 2005 when I was a 20-year-old female jockey having my first ride at Cheltenham Festival.
“Walking past 80,000 people who have just lost money on me, that was the beginning of a lifelong lesson in perseverance.”
