Met Eireann warns strong winds , heavy rain and hail will hit this week in its latest weather forecast . Today (Monday December 16) will be mainly dry with some showers and highs of 11 degrees. A Met Eireann forecaster said: 'Today will be largely dry with some bright or sunny spells. However, there will be a few showers also, mainly in the west and north but some may travel further east later in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Cloud will increase from the west overnight and some rain or drizzle will develop by morning. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, in moderate to fresh southerly winds.' Tomorrow (Tuesday December 17) will see weather conditions turn 'rather wet and windy'. The forecast says: 'After a largely dry start for most, rain will become persistent in the west and spread eastwards to all areas through the afternoon. It will become quite windy also with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds. Highest afternoon temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees. 'The rain will become patchy overnight, clearing eastwards with scattered showers following. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees with fresh to strong southwesterly winds veering westerly.' Wednesday (December 18) will see two parts of the country avoid any rain. Met.ie says: 'It'll start out fairly dry on Wednesday morning with just showers around before a spell of rain will spread across the southern half of the country in the afternoon. Most of Connacht and Ulster will avoid the rain altogether with just showers feeding in at times'
