A nationwide weather advisory is in place for Ireland ahead of stormy weather, which will see very strong winds, damaging gusts and spells of heavy rain hit the country
The national forecaster has issued a nationwide advisory ahead of the bad spell of weather, which is expected to hit on Thursday night.
A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "On Thursday night and during Friday, a deepening Low-Pressure system is forecast to track close to Ireland. Very strong winds are likely across the country with the potential for damaging wind gusts and disruption in places. High seas and spells of heavy rain are expected also.
"Current indications suggest conditions will turn wet and windy Thursday night. Southerly winds will become very strong and gusty as rain spreads from the southwest becoming widespread overnight. The rain, heavy at first, will possibly turn to sleet or snow locally. Cold initially with lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees but temperatures turning very mild from the south through the night.
