After a very sunny few days around Ireland last weekend things are about to get a lot colder on Thursday and Friday in bleak weather forecast ahead of the bank holiday

Temperatures around Ireland will plummet to a low of -1 degrees in the lead up to the May bank holiday.

Things will be a lot cooler for the rest of the week with some showery outbreaks of rain in some areas. The north will get the best of the weather on Thursday. A forecaster from Met Eireann said: "Scattered showers in the north and northwest to begin on Thursday, with variable cloud and some limited bright or sunny breaks elsewhere.

"Drier and sunnier conditions will develop in the north through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in light to moderate northerly or variable breezes."They added: "Cool and clear in northern parts with showery outbreaks of rain elsewhere. Some mist and fog patches too. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees in light to moderate variable winds."
