Micheál Martin is expected to be formally elected as Taoiseach later today, marking his second term in the role. After receiving his appointment from President Michael D. Higgins, Martin will begin the process of assembling his Cabinet.
The Fianna Fáil leader will be formally elected as Taoiseach for the second time later today, almost two months after the General Election . The newly nominated Taoiseach will then leave Leinster House and travel to Áras an Uachtaráin. Once he receives his Warrant of Appointment and Seal of Office from President Michael D. Higgins, Mr Martin will start appointing his Cabinet .
There are 15 Ministerial positions on offer and the coalition parties have agreed that there will be eight ministers from Fianna Fáil and seven from Fine Gael. On the Fianna Fáil side, Jack Chambers, Norma Foley and Darragh O'Brien are likely to receive full ministries. It is understood that Charlie McConalogue, Mary Butler, James Browne, Darragh Calleary, Thomas Byrne and Jim O'Callaghan may also be considered for the other roles. Patrick O'Donovan and Peter Burke are also heavily favoured as ministerial selections. Other possible Ministers include Jennifer Carrol MacNeill, Martin Heydon, Hildegarde Haughton and Alan Dillon.
