More than 15,000 babies were born in three months in 2018, according to CSO

More than 15,000 new babies entered the world in Ireland in a three-month period - with the average age of new mums nearly 33.Despite the baby boom between July and September last year, the figure was down by 207 on the same period in 2017.Dublin city, unsurprisingly, was the baby capital of Ireland, accounting for 1,709 or 11.1% of all live births, followed by Cork .

A breakdown of the births by province shows that outside Dublin, baby-making is alive and well in Kildare and Meath .
