Police in New Zealand say there are 'significant' casualties after gun attack on two mosques in Christchurch
An attack on two crowded mosques during afternoon prayers left multiple people dead, police said, on what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as "one of New Zealand's darkest days".
Police said four people - three men and a woman - had been taken into custody, and that they had found and neutralised a number of IEDS . Local media reported at least nine people were dead and the South Island city was placed under lockdown."This is an evolving incident and we are working to confirm the facts, however we can confirm there have been a number of fatalities," Commissioner Bush said.
"It is clear that this is one of New Zealand's darkest days," Ms Ardern told reporters. "Clearly, what has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence."
