In July, the High Court in India became involved to fast-track the trial in a new court
The mum of tragic Danielle McLaughlin is ‘enthusiastic and hopeful’ the five and a half year long murder trial will be completed by the middle of next year as the Indian High Court has become involved to fast track it.
The 24-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, murder, violent robbery and destruction of evidence. “Since the High Court got involved the trial is now on roughly five times a month compared to twice a month and I am enthusiastic and hopeful the trial will be over by the middle of next year,” Andrea told this publication.
Earlier this year, Counsel General of Ireland in Western India Anita Kelly and British Deputy High Commissioner Alan Gemmell met with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. “Ensuring a quick conclusion to the court case is a significant priority for the British and Irish Governments as well as, of course for Danielle’s family,” the statement read.
