The second report into CervicalCheck issues by Irish expert Dr Gabriel Scally is due soon, after a spokesperson for the Minister for Health said that Dr Scally had sought additional time to complete his report.Scally Two is examining outstanding issues with a former laboratory used in the United States that was outsourcing CervicalCheck screening tests in Texas, Hawaii and Florida.
Dr Scally's first report identified serious gaps in the expertise and governance of the CervicalCheck screening programme. Meanwhile, the latest report from the CervicalCheck Steering Committee has said that 63% of women affected have consented to the independent review of around 1,800 slides by a team from the Royal College of Gynaecologists in the UK.
The number of slides required from each laboratory has also been identified - Quest have 1,072, Sonic have 651 and the Coombe have 70. "Labs have begun the slide retrieval process and it is hoped transfer of slides will begin shortly", the report of the 22 January meeting states.The 50 recommendations of the Scally Review
