The accident involved a car and a lorry
Traffic has been stopped on the M1 northbound in Northamptonshire, heading towards Coventry, due to a "serious" collision earlier this morning . Traffic officers and emergency services are in attendance.
The closure is between junction 16 at Daventry and junction 17 at Dunchurch/Coventry. Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "All traffic being temporarily held due to accident on M1 Northbound from J16 A4500 to J17 M45 ." Inrix has confirmed that the lorry has ended up "down the embankment" two and a half miles after J16 as a result of the smash.
National Highways most recently tweeted regarding the incident: "Traffic has now been stopped on the #M1 northbound between J16 and J17 following a serious collision. "All emergency services are in attendance and are working at the scene. @NorthantsPolice.
