Record View says in a rich country like Scotland it is a scandal that 34 per cent of all babies are born into hardship – 10 per cent more than the UK national average.
A charity more used to raising awareness of hunger and want in the world’s most disadvantaged countries has turned the focus on Scotland to expose the broken system which allows our most vulnerable children to suffer.
But every party that has had a role in government at Holyrood – whether Labour, Lib Dem, SNP or Green – has had plenty to say on this issue. Governments at Westminster and Holyrood need to knock their heads together to get a grip on child poverty. Hopefully a change of government at Westminster will see us start to finally improve the life chances of every child.
Now, even though a public inquiry into the debacle has taken nine years, it seems Scottish ministers don’t agree with the findings.
