The Duke of Kent is the oldest member of the Royal Family and has lived an interesting life - from army service to being a senior head of one of the UK's most mysterious organisations
Following Queen Elizabeth's death last year at the age of 96, her cousin Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent became the oldest living member of the Royal Family.
As he marks his 88th birthday today, we look at his remarkable life and how he supported the late monarch throughout her reign. The prince was educated at Ludgrove Prep School, Eton College and at the Le Rosey Institute in Switzerland. Upon his return to the UK, Edward was enrolled at Sandhurst Military Academy and later embarked on his army career that lasted over 20 years.
The Duchess of Kent made headlines in 1994 when she converted to Roman Catholicism. While this was a significant move for a member of the Royal Family to make, it did not affect Prince Edward and his place in the line of succession.
