Outrage over claims Government's affordable mortgage scheme runs out of money
Opposition politicians are up in arms over claims the Government’s affordable mortgages scheme has run out of cash.
The Government would do this by becoming banker for many who could not get approved for a mortgage from the banks. However, it has emerged through a Freedom of Information request from RTE’s Morning Ireland the scheme is effectively closed and is taking no more applicants.applicants through the Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan Scheme, no more loans are being approved.
Sinn Fein’s housing spokesman Eoin O Broin said he was disappointed to see the scheme stalled and said there is also spare cash lying idle because it is not being administered properly.
