Albania star Rudi Vata played against Packie Bonner and international level, but teamed up with the goalkeeper at Celtic.
Packie Bonner was already a well-known name in Albania by the time Rudi Vata got to play against him in May 1992.
“I played against Packie in Ireland when I played for Albania,” he recalled. “Packie was a big name because he obviously left a big impression on me with Ireland in the World Cup with Jackie Charlton, the penalty shootout and kick-outs. “He had his crazy moments as well, but he had great leadership and balance, he was a good man and a good motivator. It wasn’t long after Vata left Albania, which had been under the grip of a communist regime, when he arrived at Celtic.
“I could only see what they were doing and try to copy them so that I could become the best version of myself.Vata, meanwhile, will be in Germany this evening for Albania’s Euro 2024 opener against Italy.
