Maurice Snowdon, a 78-year-old pensioner with extensive knowledge of the Dark Web, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for downloading and viewing over 11,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse. Gardaí discovered the material after staff at a Compu B store found two images on Snowdon's hard drive. He pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of child pornography and was ordered to serve the remaining 12 months of his sentence. He must also register as a sex offender for 10 years and undergo therapy to address his predilection for seeking child sexual abuse material.
A paedophile pensioner with extensive knowledge of the “ Dark Web ”, has been jailed for a year after admitting downloading and viewing over 11,000 depraved images and videos of child sexual abuse and child exposure.
Gardaí were alerted to the the material after staff at a Compu B store in Limerick, where Snowdon had left his computer in for repairs, found two images of child sexual abuse on the computer’s hard-drive. During interviews with gardai, after his arrest, Snowden said his definition of a child was a person aged “up to 14 years”.
The Garda said Snowdon told officers he believed he had deleted the child abuse material, which was eventually unearthed by gardai who are specially trained in computer forensics. The judge ordered Snowdon be put on a “sex offender’s register” for a period of ten years, and he imposed a prison sentence of 18 months with the final six months suspended.
