The government revealed the details earlier this year of the extension of the Free Education Scheme which will see free school books provided for Junior Cycle post primary students - it may soon be expanded further

According to The Journal, free school books will be extended to Leaving Cert students as part of the upcoming budget - which is set to be announced on the 1st of October.

A number of ministers have supported the prospect of extending the scheme to Leaving Cert students, as Tanaiste Micheál Martin told the Dáil last month that he envisages the free school books scheme will be extended to Leaving Cert students in the upcoming budget.
