Up to 170 passengers are stranded in Faro International Airport, Portugal after their flight was diverted after taking off from Lanzarote bound for Dublin . Flight EI777 was due to leave the island at 11.20am and land at Dublin Airport by 3.40pm today.

However, it departed 30 minutes late and, while in the air, passengers were informed that they were diverting to Faro as the plane, an A320 which has a passenger capacity of between 140 and 170, “was not sufficiently fuelled”, according to a man on board who did not want to be named. The passenger from the southeast of the country explained: “We’ve been stuck on the plane on the tarmac in Faro for a number of hours until Aer Lingus made up their minds before being allowed to go into the terminal.
