The Estonian hitman-for-hire, nicknamed ‘The Butcher’ was extradited to Lithuania last year
Kinahan hired hitman Imre Arakas has admitted his role in the murder of a well known MMA fighter, Lithuanian police claim.
Morkevičius was murdered in Kaunas in front of his house by a gunman who fired from an automatic weapon, police say. Police further stated that they worked with gardai in Ireland and police bodies across Poland, Spain and the UK in this investigation into Arakas. He further spoke about the murder and claimed he was out of the country when it occurred. “This boxer picked up some girl here and they wanted to bring in Kinahans because she was beaten up pretty badly. The boxer was murdered in Lithuania and people wrote that I am an excellent marksman but he was shot ten times, including in the arse and the shoulder.
Late last year Arakas gave an interview to Estonian TV station Kanal 2 where he claimed Lithuanian police tried to get him to give up the Kinahan cartel for a $5m reward. Despite pleading guilty to the Gately murder plot, he has since claimed he was only in Ireland at the time to go camping. “Everyone thinks I am an international killer but I was in Ireland for camping. Look at the things I had in my bag. I wasn’t going to kill anyone.”
